President Sarkozy had a telephone conversation today with Mr Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel.
President Sarkozy asked Mr Netanyahu to follow up the United Nations Security Council’s calls for a credible, impartial investigation into the circumstances of the Israeli intervention against the “Peace Flotilla” on 31 May off the coast of Gaza, and expressed France’s willingness to participate in it.
As regards the situation in the Gaza Strip, the Head of State stressed the urgency of a solution to end the blockade through mechanisms which allow Israel’s security to be guaranteed and ensure that supplies reach the territory with due regard for the Palestinian Authority’s powers.
Finally, President Sarkozy called for a relaunch of the peace process between Palestinians and Israelis in order to succeed as soon as possible in implementing the agreed solution of two States, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security./.
