The latest events in Guinea have shown that, as the second round of the election draws near, the electoral process is more than ever subject to unrest and violence unacceptable in an election.
So I telephoned the two second-round candidates in the presidential election. I called on them to cool the situation and respect the letter and spirit of the Ouagadougou Protocol they signed in President Compaoré’s presence on 3 September 2010.
Cellou Dalein Diallo and Alpha Conde reiterated to me their determination to honour the Ouagadougou Protocol, call on their sympathizers to be calm, and accept the result of the ballot box.
With Guinea’s other partners, France remains determined to do the utmost to help the Guineans successfully conclude this historic process./.
