2010 General Excellence in Online Journalism Award
Selected in the category “General Excellence in Online Journalism, Non-English, Small Site” for the final of the Online Journalism Awards administrated by the Online News Association - the most important organization of professional digital journalists -, the French media OWNI.fr won the award on Saturday, October 30 in Washington DC.
This is the first time a French media won this prestigious award, created in 2000 to honor excellence in digital journalism worldwide. It honors the style and the substance of the work by the French start up 22mars SAS, which conceives, edits and hosts the website OWNI.fr.
"The judges concluded that OWNI offers, for its size, an ambitious commitment to many of the most innovative uses of digital journalism available. Its clearly designed, superbly functional site is a role model for others in how to generate engagement and produce great journalism at the same time", explained the jury during the Online Journalism Awards banquet on Saturday, October 30.
