Presidential election in Côte d’Ivoire
Paris, December 2, 2010
The presidential election in Côte d’Ivoire has so far taken place under conditions which are a credit to Ivorian democracy.
The Independent Electoral Commission has meticulously carried out its task and this afternoon its president declared the provisional results of the ballot.
It is now up to the Constitutional Council to declare the final results with strict regard for the will clearly expressed by the Ivorian people. Certification of the results by the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative depends on it.
President Sarkozy issues an appeal to the Ivorian leaders and officials concerned to ensure that the electoral process, which got off to such a good start, is swiftly concluded in a climate of calm and a new era of peace and prosperity opens up in Côte d’Ivoire./.
