Meeting between François Fillon, Prime Minister, and Mohammed Ghannouchi, Prime Minister of Tunisia – Communiqué issued by the Prime Minister
Paris, February 11, 2011

Prime Minister François Fillon held a meeting late in the morning of Friday, 11 February with his Tunisian counterpart, Mohammed Ghannouchi, to take stock of the situation in Tunisia. He reiterated France’s full support for the transition process under way and our support for the initial reforms embarked upon in that country.

France stands alongside the Tunisian government and people, to support Tunisia on the path of democracy and economic and social progress. François Fillon reiterated our determination to conclude negotiations as soon as possible, with a view to the European Union granting advanced status to Tunisia.

M. Ghannouchi set out to François Fillon his plan to organize shortly in Carthage an international conference on support for political and economic reforms in Tunisia. François Fillon welcomed this initiative, which he considered excellent. France will of course play her full role in it.

The Prime Minister asked Christine Lagarde, Minister for the Economy, Finance and Industry, to travel to Tunisia very soon to examine the practicalities of strengthening our economic partnership and to make our contribution to preparing this conference in Carthage./.
