Paris, June 14, 2011
Dear Prime Minister,
Following your political group’s latest success in the general election, the third after those of 2002 and 2007, and now that you are being called on to form Turkey’s 61st government, it gives me great pleasure to extend to you my warm congratulations, personally and on behalf of the French people.
My working visit to Ankara, in February this year, and the discussions we were able to have on that occasion allowed us to affirm our shared determination to strengthen in every sphere our bilateral cooperation and our dialogue on the major regional and international issues.
France is resolved to work – with her main partners and allies, who of course include Turkey – for the stability and prosperity of her regional environment. Three months after the start of the allied intervention in Libya, and at a time when the situation in Syria is a source of major shared concern, France is particularly keen to deepen her cooperation with Turkey to help the region’s peoples take back control of their destiny.
