President Sarkozy and Chancellor Angela Merkel had a conversation this afternoon with the new Greek Prime Minister, Lucas Papademos.
After congratulating him on the formation of the new Greek government, they emphasized the urgency of a full and comprehensive implementation of all the commitments made, particularly those included in the agreement of the 27 October Eurogroup summit. It will only be possible to release the next tranche of aid when a decisive step has been taken in this direction.
President Sarkozy then had a new bilateral meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel to take stock of developments in the whole Euro Area and consider the initiatives necessary in order to speed up full implementation of the 27 October agreement. The two leaders reaffirmed their total determination to defend the euro./.
