The provisional results of the presidential election in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have just been made public.
The ballot, for which the Congolese people turned out in force, demonstrated their commitment to democracy. As the European Union observers emphasized, it was nonetheless marked by numerous and serious weaknesses and irregularities.
France calls on all the political players in the DRC to show restraint and a spirit of responsibility.
She asks all those candidates who might wish to challenge the provisional results to do so by using the legal appeal channels. She will condemn any incitement to violence.
She reminds the authorities of the Democratic Republic of Congo that they are the guarantors of the people’s safety and must ensure public order with due regard for the rule of law./.
