Excerpts from the statements by M. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs, at his joint press conference with his Chinese counterpart
Beijing, September 15, 2013

The bilateral relationship between France and China (…) is absolutely excellent. We spoke in particular about what will happen next year, which will be a great France-China year with the 50th anniversary of China’s recognition by General de Gaulle’s France. We spoke about our trade in the area of nuclear power and in particular in the aerospace field.

France’s invitation for the Chinese President to visit at the end of the spring was confirmed. We confirmed that the French Prime Minister would come here on a date yet to be arranged, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of relations in the nuclear energy field between China and France. I invited my Foreign Minister colleague to Paris, because I don’t want to be discourteous by constantly coming to China – this must be the fourth or fifth time this year – and not having the pleasure of welcoming my counterpart to Paris.

In short, bilateral relations between France and China are excellent and we consult each other on the major subjects, as is customary between permanent members of the Security Council./.
