Central African Republic
The French President spoke on 13 February to the United Nations Secretary-General about the situation in the Central African Republic, which is still marked by insecurity and worrying population movements.
The Head of State welcomed Ban Ki-moon’s wish to become personally involved in galvanizing the international community in support of the CAR.
The Security Council has set a clear mandate, which must be swiftly and strongly implemented. In particular, it is a matter of preparing a peacekeeping operation, in close partnership with the African Union. It is also a matter of restoring the state’s authority, under the presidency of Ms Samba-Panza, and helping the Central African government prepare the elections. Finally, the international commission of inquiry must begin its work without delay, to report on the brutalities and combat impunity./.
