Central African Republic
The President had a meeting at the Elysée Palace on 8 April 2014 with his Gabonese counterpart, Mr Ali Bongo Ondimba.
They talked about the crisis in the Central African Republic and welcomed the smooth cooperation between the African-led International Support Mission to the Central African Republic (MISCA) [AFISM-CAR] and the French Sangaris force. The country’s humanitarian and security situation nevertheless remains worrying. The two heads of state signalled their intention to maintain their effort to protect civilians threatened by armed militias and called for their disarmament and for reconciliation. France and Gabon will continue their support for the Central African state in order to help restore it and re-establish it throughout the country’s regions.
At the level of bilateral relations, President Hollande confirmed France’s desire to develop exchanges with Gabon, in a spirit of transparency and reciprocity./.
