Communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic
Paris, April 10, 2014

The French President welcomes the United Nations Security Council’s unanimous adoption of Resolution 2149 on the Central African Republic.

This decision shows the international community’s determination to protect the people under threat, give them access to humanitarian aid and support the restoration of the state’s authority throughout the Central African Republic.

The resolution will enable a peacekeeping operation to be deployed from 15 September onwards; its priorities will be to end the violence, fight impunity and support the transition process that will have to lead to reconciliation between Central Africans and the return of displaced people and refugees.

The President pays tribute to the soldiers of the French and European forces being deployed alongside the African continent’s forces and protecting civilians against militias ans armed groups.

In line with the mandate which the United Nations resolution gives them, the French forces will continue their support for the African MISCA contingents and then for the United Nations peacekeeping operation./.
