Iraq/security/reminder for journalists

Publié le June 20, 2014
Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development Spokesman
Paris, June 19, 2014

The security situation in Iraq is particularly worrying. In the current context, we officially advise against travel there. Practically the whole territory, including Baghdad, is classified in the red zone on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development’s travel advice web page.
The French authorities are making journalists’ safety a priority.

Consequently, should some of them go to Iraq despite our recommendations, we ask them to be extremely vigilant and comply with the security instructions given by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development and the French Embassy in Baghdad.

Failure to comply with the basic rules of caution would jeopardize the safety of journalists and all those coming to their assistance.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development’s Communication and Press Directorate remains at the disposal of news desks for any further information./.
