The 2015 Lafayette Debates have a winner
The Higher Education Department of the Embassy of France and the George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs hosted the 2015 Lafayette Debates, an intercollegiate debate tournament, on the topic of climate change.
Participants addressed the following topic: “That all states have an obligation to anticipate, prevent and minimize the causes of climate change, and mitigate its adverse effects.”
The winning team this year was the University of Michigan Debate Team. Winners of the on-campus tournament and all the teams who reached the semi-finals won a trip to France during which they will meet with high-level stakeholders and policy-makers.
50 universities participated in the debate series which started online in February. 28 of them won their way to the on-campus tournament on GW’s campus in Washington, D.C, April 18 & 19, 2015. An online francophone debate was also open for the first time to debaters from around the globe.
