1. Disarmament - Nuclear issue - Meeting between M. Jean-Marc Ayrault, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, and Mr Yukiya Amano, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency - Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development Spokesperson (Paris - September 5, 2016)

M. Jean-Marc Ayrault, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, had a meeting today with Mr Yukiya Amano, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Messrs Ayrault and Amano took stock of the main issues dealt with by the Agency. Nearly nine months after the Vienna agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme came into force, it remains essential for the IAEA to follow up, transparently and in detail, Iran’s implementation of it. France remains vigilant about it being fully respected.

Messrs Ayrault and Amano also discussed the North Korea nuclear programme, which is being pursued in violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions. Jean-Marc Ayrault condemned North Korea’s provocations, which threaten regional and international security and pose a challenge to the non-proliferation regime. North Korea’s recent resumption of military nuclear material production, which the IAEA Director General referred to, is unacceptable.
