The Minister will visit Egypt, Jordan, Palestine and Israel this coming weekend

Laurent Fabius will visit Egypt, Jordan, Palestine and Israel from June 20 to 21. In Egypt, he will meet with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, his counterpart Sameh Shoukry, Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil el-Araby, as well as representatives of the Arab League committee responsible for the peace process. In Jordan, he will meet with his counterpart Nasser Judeh before being received by King Abdullah II. Lastly, he will meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem.

This visit will provide an opportunity to discuss France’s proposals on how to relaunch efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in order to promote the creation of a viable and sovereign Palestinian state living in peace and security alongside Israel within secure and recognized borders, while ensuring the security of Israel. The priority must be to swiftly re-establish the conditions for the resumption of credible negotiations between the parties and to ensure their successful conclusion.

Such an objective requires a renewed international framework based on clear parameters for advancing the negotiations, and a timetable, because the more time goes by, the more elusive the prospect of peace becomes, and the greater the risk of escalation.
