Climate disruption/COP21/energy transition law
The law on energy transition for green growth has just been validated by the Constitutional Council. It reflects a major commitment I made to the French people.
It puts France at the vanguard of the fight against global warming.
It is an ambitious text, which sets itself the targets of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to 1990, increasing the share of renewable energy to more than 30% of final energy consumption by 2030 and reducing the share of nuclear energy in electricity production to 50% by 2025.
The law will stimulate green growth by encouraging activity in construction, renewable energy, the circular economy and clean transport. It will also have a social dimension, with the zero waste target and the fight against energy poverty.
This law fully incorporates France into the new century’s energy transition. It introduces the essential tools for the success of the energy transition and makes France a benchmark, ahead of the Paris Climate Conference./.
