The 2016 Grande Fête de la Francophonie
On March 18, the Embassy of France hosted the closing celebration of the Fête Internationale de la Francophonie (International Festival of Francophonie) in Washington, D.C. The annual festival is a celebration of French-speaking countries and communities around the world, who share their diverse cultures and celebrate their shared francophone heritage.
This year’s festival was a collaboration between the French Embassy, Francophonie DC and Smithsonian at 8. Representatives from over 30 embassies and cultural organizations shared their countries’ food, drinks, and more. From Cameroon, to Switzerland, to Canada, guests experienced a truly global adventure.
For the second year in a row, tickets were completely sold out. Attendees danced to live Cajun music by Major Handy and later to tracks from DJ Princess Slaya, who spun music from Africa, the Caribbean, Europe and more.
