The French President spoke to the President of Lebanon, Michel Aoun, on November 10.
The two leaders discussed the situation in Lebanon following the announcement of Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri’s resignation. The French President recalled the importance of maintaining Lebanon’s stability, independence and security, and he also reaffirmed France’s support for the Lebanese people. He reiterated his appeal for Lebanon’s political leaders to enjoy freedom of movement. The need to maintain the continuity of state institutions was emphasized, in the framework of the policy of dissociation from conflicts in the region, in particular Syria, in order to protect Lebanese sovereignty and stability.
President Aoun thanked the French President for his support. In the present context, he stressed how important his visit to Riyadh and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had been. He expressed the wish that continued exchanges between Lebanon and France will continue at all levels. The French President will have a meeting with the Lebanese Foreign Minister next Tuesday.
