Iran : Establishing the conditions for a de-escalation through dialogue
President Macron spoke today by phone with Hassan Rouhani, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Building on the discussions he had during the G7 summit in Biarritz, President Macron underscored the importance of the current momentum in establishing the conditions for a de-escalation through dialogue and the development of a lasting solution in the region.
With this in mind, President Macron reaffirmed the need for Iran to fully comply with its nuclear obligations and to take the steps needed on its part to re-establish peace and security in the Middle East.
He notably underscored the need to take action to put an end to the fighting and to launch negotiations in Yemen. He also stressed the importance of exercising the utmost restraint in Lebanon and of ensuring that nothing is done that could jeopardize its stability at a time of heightened tensions.
President Macron and his Iranian counterpart agreed to remain in close contact over the next few days.
